My name is Jason Simus and I teach traditional Chen style Taijiquan (Tai Chi), Qigong, and Meditation. I'm also a student, training with Arizona Chen Taijiquan (arizonachentaiji.com), the Arizona Chapter of the Chen Xiaowang World Taijiquan Association (chenxiaowang.com). I started teaching Taiji and Qigong in 2015. For more about me click here.
In the Chen style Taiji basics class, we start with deep breathing, a brief loosen-up, then a standing posture meditation (zhan zhuang), some Taiji fundamental movements with walking, balance, strength, relaxation, and coordination exercises, then Silk Reeling exercises (chan si gong) which are similar to Qigong--slow, gentle movements coordinated with deep breathing. These exercises are simple, but challenging, and form the basis for Chen style Taijiquan (tai chi).
In the Qigong classes we practice traditional forms like the 8 Brocades (ba duan jin) and the Muscle and Tendon Changing Classic (yijin jing) that include energizing stretching and strength-building movements coordinated with deep breathing.
